Between Albuquerque and Flagstaff are many Route 66 detours. One turn off that was really fun was Winslow, Arizona. Yep, just like the song! They have the corner marked with a statue, some signs, a road mural and even a little gift shop that was piping American 60s classics through outdoor speakers. Like I said, it was a fun stop.
Flagstaff is a really cute mountain town! Who knew that there's skiing in Arizona?! Apparently, I have lots to learn about our southern neighbours. Flagstaff is nestled among some mountains in the middle of the desert. It was strange approaching Flagstaff because we could see the mountains for HOURS. We were climbing gradually for that time too and then, there were pine trees and we were in the mountains. We were also over 6000 feet up!
The town hosts a university and college is close to a ski hill, has many cute restaurants and cafes and even has a grocery store like Natural Foods. We were a little sad we weren't staying longer...but Vegas was calling. People to meet and shows to see!!
But if you are ever in Arizona, check out Flagstaff.
