Traveling South on Good Friday/Springbreak

We learned something new today. If you can avoid it, don't travel south towards Florida on the Friday before Spring Break. Oops.
We thought we were SO well planned because we avoided March Break...but we forgot that Americans get Spring Break next week. That coupled with Good Friday made the highways feel more like parking lots. Our drive from Cincinnati to Nashville took 7 1/2 hours! (It was supposed to take 4)
The good news is we took a few detours and got to see some beautiful countryside in Kentucky and Tennessee. We're looking forward to seeing Nashville tomorrow.
Tonight we end the day with family, watching March Madness Basketball.

Cincinnati

I have a confession. I didn't think Cincinnati would be nice. I imagined a drab, cold city with humourous people. (Drew Carey is from Ohio, right?) I'm happy to report, however that Cincinnati is great! We arrived in the late afternoon and headed directly to this really cute neighbourhood up at the top of a hill called Mount Adams. There were plenty of pubs and restaurants as well as a park and a beautiful view of the city and Kentucky.
Another cool fact about Cincinatti is that it's right across the Ohio River from Kentucky. (Just like Ottawa and the province of Quebec...except the drinking age is the same in both states ;-)
Our next stop was to the fast food chain Skyline. Cincinatti is know for its Chili Cheese Hoagies, so of course we had to try some! These mini hot dogs come with chili and cheese loaded on top. The restaurant also specializes in spaghetti topped with chili and cheese. YUM! It was a great introduction to a cool city. I can't wait to see what Nashville has in store for us.

This is a beautiful Church overlooking the city.

A view of Cincinnati.

A cute pizzaria in Mount Adams.

One of many pubs.

Yes, we let Dominic try some chili. He liked it :-)

Downtown Cincinnati.

Fenton

After MANY hours of packing, repacking, checking and rechecking, we finally headed out. Who knew we would need so much? We probably don't but at least I feel well prepared!
Our first destination was Fenton, Michigan. If you have never been and happen to be going through Michigan, you should totally make the detour. It's a cute little town with an awesome restaurant called The (French) Laundry. Fenton honestly looks like a Norman Rockwell painting. Big colourful houses with wrap around porches line the quiet streets. The downtown has cute shops and friendly people.
We know of Fenton because Dave's cousins live there...but it's a cute town either way. (Though I do have to admit that the Faricys really make the place special!)
Here is an older pic with Dom and Maria this summer. (I totally forgot to take pics this time! I was having too much fun ;-)

Last Minute Prep!

Tomorrow we start our month long trip to Las Vegas and back. I'm excited and totally nervous...and completely unprepared. So much to do and instead I thought I would write about it all ;-)
Our trip will be great we are Leaving London, Ontario, and heading to visit family in Fenton Michigan then our journey will bring us to Cincinnati, Nashville, Little Rock, Tulsa, Amarillo, Albequrque, Flagstaff then... LAS VEGAS! Wow.
Once there, we will visit the Grand Canyon and then head up to Utah and back across the States through Colorado. It should be lots of fun. The crazy part about this is that my husband and I are doing this with our 10 month old son!! Are we crazy? Yeah, probably...but we have this chance so why not? When else will we have the time?
Ok, gotta run. We have to pack the clothes, food and other fun baby stuff.  Oh, and I should probably sleep, at some point, but before I do here is a pic of us in Vancouver back in December. (Just because I think posts are more fun with pics)
